Jørgen B. Lysholm started his distillery in Trondheim in 1821, based on the state-of-the-art techniques at that time. The
plant was further modernised in the late 1830s.
Lysholm was the first to produce linie aquavit, which became the company’s most popular brand and best selling product.
After Jørgen B. Lysholm died in 1842, his son, Nicolai, took over the business. Lysholm’s aquavits were exported worldwide.
In 1899 Lysholm took over Sundnæs Brænderi and later, in 1925, it acquired H. Poulsen & Co at Hamar.
The establishing of the State Wine Monopoly, however, marked the end of A/S Jørgen B. Lysholm, and the company was taken over
by the new monopoly in 1925.
